A very special build this one. Imported back from Australia after spending nearly seventy years on a farm with a power take off mounted on the rear, this fabulous and totally original Land Rover Series 1 80 inch was a special car to restore. All the panels, engine, chassis, gearbox axles and even the gauges are the same ones as when it was delivered by Grenville Motors of Sydney.

This Land Rover did carry one or two battle scars and although everyone expects an Aussie car to be rust free, there was quite a bit of chassis corrosion to deal with. Chassis repairs spanned six weeks alone, not just for corrosion but also we had to jig it back to straight as it had had quite a pounding at some point.

The body panels were no longer repairable so new wings, doors and rear body were made, the bulkhead, though damaged and slightly bent was thankfully repairable.

As with any ACH restoration no washer is left unturned. The engine had no compression and there was a mighty score in cylinder number 1. The only answer for this was to machine out the block to fit a liner. The block and head were dipped removing any impurities such as rust and paint, pressure tested and then painted. The bottom end of all our engines are balanced to ensure the sweetest tick over.

Gearbox and axles were completely overhauled along with brakes etc. all the fasteners and fixings on the car were either re-sherardised or replaced.

The body and all other components that were to be painted received two coats of primer before four coats of base coat them lacquer.
